Grants Pass
Michael had a Scout meeting in Grants Pass which is in the South of Oreogon and if I say the South I mean it. Its probably like an half an hour away from California. If you enter Oreogon from California and you read the sign at the border that you are in Oregon now, it used to say “ You are more than welcome to visit, but please don’t stay“. I think its pretty funny. 😉 Grants Pass is a small old town. It looks a little bit like a British town, it has a lot of shops with antique things.
Seattle
Wednesday we went on a day trip to Seattle. We departured from the house at about 7:30 am. Then the motto was sitting in the car for the next 4 hours. Around noon we finally arrived in Seattle. First we went up to the Observation Deck of the Space Nedel. The weather was good enough to see everything. We had a great view of the bay and the skyline of Seattle. Then we further downtown to a public market. It was pretty crazy there. A ton of people in a very small building. Around 4pm we started to head home. Sadly we got stuck in traffic for about 1:30 hour, but it was not too bad. Overall we had an awesome day 🙂
Coast Aquarium
On Monday we made a day trip to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. We got to see all of the cool, beautiful, and ugly fish living in the Pacific Ocean around Oregon. The best part are the Otters because they are pretty funny. I got to pet some sea stars, honestly I wasn’t sure about it at all. 🙂
Tennis
The tennis season offically started on the 27th of February, but not for me because I had to recover from a bad flu. Furthermore, the Basketball team had their semi-final and at the end final game in the Gill Stadium at OSU. Sadly the did not win the final game of the Play Offs, but it was a great performance from either sides. But now back to tennis. Consirdered to my amount of missed practices I played JV the first couple of pre-season matches. The next one I played 4. Double Varsity. For the first District match we had to travel all the way to Madras which is on the other side of the Cascade Mountain Range. Sadly I didn’t play because I missed practices during spring. But from there on I played about every match. Sometimes singles and sometimes Doubles. I personally prefer Singles, but Doubles can get a lot more fun if you partner and you get along well. Since I had a lot of fun playing Doubles with a friend I didn’t care what I would play for the final District Tournament. Altough we were messing around most of the time, we still won every single match. For District Tournament I ended up playing Singles against the first guy of another school. I didn’t play very good at the beginning; therefore, I lost my first set. The second set was close, but my oponent had the better shots at the end. And I am not gonna talk about the second match I had; simply, because I played awful. :-). At the end it was a great Tournament.
Paintball
For my birthday party we went inside paintballing. Some friends and I were playing for probably about three hours or longer. First you have to find you way in because you don’t want to get hit, but after I got hit the first time I got much more confident about the game. Its just the fear that a hit might hurt really bad, but I was wrapped up in enough cloth so that it didn’t hurt. Furthermore, you have to get along with the action of shooting at somebody. In my opinion it feels a little bit weird. It was a fun day and I really enjoyed it.
Discovery Tour Day 7 Washington D.C.
On Friday morning we went to the Capital of the United States. It was pretty impressing to see it, just the feeling to stand in front of it or even take a tour around it was awesome. Furthermore, we went to the White House which was not as impressive as I thought its going to be. It was just a white house in front of you. It still was cool to see it. The Smithsonian Museums were anouther attraction we went to. I and some other people went to the Air and Space Museum. I thought it was pretty cool to have all the rockets and plains hanging around there. Afterwards we went to the Natural History Museum. Later on we went to the Jefferson Memorial which had the nice fact of having a great few of the other side of the White house and a nice view of the MLK Memorial.
Discovery Tour Day 6 Washington D.C.
Sadly the time had come to say “ Goodbye “ to the awesome New York city. It was time to ride the bus further south towards the captiol of the United States. We had a two hour pitstop at an outlet mall close to D.C.. The first stop we made was at the Iwo Jima Monument. We had a nice view over Washington D.C from there. We also drove by the Arlington National Cemetery. Next we went to the Vietnam Veterans Memorials, people bring flowers or candles to the memorial daily. The Lincoln Memorial was the next sight we saw, we also had a nice view to the Washington Monument.
Discovery Tour Day 5 New York
In the morning we took a boat tour to and around the Statue of Liberty. Sadly the island was still closed because of the damges caused by huricane Sandy, but we still got very close. Furhtermore we saw the skyline of New York from there especially from Lower Manhatten. In the Harbor is an Air museum where a Space Shuttel and one of the Concorde is to see. It was very nice weather while we had the tour. Then we went to Central Park. Before we entered Central Park, we passed the house John Lennon was shot in front of. Cetral Park was very impressing in my opinion, not the Park by itself was the most impressive part; although it was a very nice Park, it has small hills in it and a huge lake. The more impressive part was the sourounding, it looked soo cool, imagine you are in a Park where it is quiet and the sourounding is filled with tall skyscrapers. Afterwards we went to the UN building and then we took a tour around the NBC studios. We also had another stop at Times Square. The last thing we did in the New York was going over the Brooklyn Bridge at night. It was very cool;-)
